Did 27 months in the county jail systems prior to hitting the streets. It's probably the worst "beat" anywhere and I have much respect for correctional officers/jailers(The prison setting is even worst). A lot of people in my line of work dreaded the jails and did not want to work there. I believe they missed out on some good "training grounds." As a fresh "boot" over 15 years ago, working the jails exposed me quick and fast to predators that I did not know existed, taught me how to talk to them, improved my officer safety skills and showed me what worked and did not work with hand to hand combat. I also believe anyone wishing to work the streets should work at least a year in the correctional facilities. When I worked the jails, a lot of deputies carried batons or mace. I did not believe in carrying such weapons because I did not want the crooks possibly having access to them(Just my own philosophy). I believed in my Kajukenbo training and wanted to test certain techniques to see what worked and what did not work. Just a young, energetic Kajukenbo practitioner wanting to test his skills.
