What measures do you take to avoid becoming a victim? Do you walk down dark alleys at night? Do you open your front door to strangers? Do you meet strangers and invite them home? If you answer yes to any of these questions, then the risks of you becoming a victim has increased. How do you avoid being a victim? It's very common sense. Here are some tips to avoid becoming a victim.
1. Body language. We talk about this all the time in class. Suck in your gut, stick your chest out and walk like you mean business. Predators look for easy prey, someone who's down and out. Even if you don't know much martial arts or "secret techniques" the crooks don't know that. Be like a cobra flexing it's hood. Look menacing and avoid the predators.
2. Be alert. We always stress being alert when out and about. Keep an eye out for danger signals and always trust your instincts. Everyone of us have that instinct in us but not everyone uses it or trust it. If the hair on the back of your neck is standing up then there's a chance something is wrong.
3. Don't take chances. Don't think that this one time will be okay for you to open the door to strangers or it's okay this one time to walk down the dark alley. The more chances you take the higher the percentages of becoming a victim.
4. Avoid being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Better yet avoid the wrong place all the time. Drinking in the middle of the night in a biker bar full of bikers is generally not a good idea. Hanging out in the park in the middle of the night with gang members is generally not a good idea. Walking down a dark alley because you want to get to a nightclub before happy hour is over is generally not a good idea. Get the point?!!
A synopsis of how to avoid or at least minimize your chances of becoming a victim is very common sense. It's something we stress all the time in class. Be confident, be alert, minimize taking chances and avoid troubled areas. If you apply these simple steps, then you have lowered the percentage of becoming a victim.
